Dirt biking, ATV-UTV riding, or driving
There are plenty of fun and exciting trails to ride your ATV or UTV. Some trails are rated for 50” machines; others are for all sizes. Regardless of your experience level, there is fun to be had in these mountains. Please respect our forests and stay on the trails.
Dirt bikes are welcome on all forest service motorized vehicle trails. Check out the maps to find your next adventure. Thank you for staying on the designated trails.
Non-Motorized Trails
Hiking, mountain biking, trail running, horseback riding: In addition to the roads and trails for other types of transportation, there are local, non-motorized trails available near Yellow Pine. Local mountain bikers have also developed some trails immediately around Yellow Pine
Fishing
Stream Fishing
Both the East Fork of the Salmon River and Johnson Creek provide excellent fly fishing and stream fishing. Both are within walking distance of Yellow Pine and run along the local campgrounds. These waterways are home to Salmon, Bull Trout, and Rainbow Trout. All stream fishing in the area is catch and release.
Lake Fishing
Local lakes require some footwork, but are worth the hike. Reardon, Rainbow, and Crater lakes are all good fishing holes.
Kayaking
The East Fork of the Salmon River is known for excellent kayaking opportunities. Local shuttle services are available through Bill McIntosh, 208 633-5555

Local Day Events
Highland Games
Last Saturday in June. Watch (or participate) the Bald Mountain Knuckle Draggers and other clans as they compete in multiple events like the Caber Toss and Hammer Throw.
YP Escapade
hosted ATV-UTV rides held in July and September
Labor Day Weekend Golf Tournament
this fund raiser is held Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

Developed campgrounds and dispersed camping are available within walking distance of Yellow Pine.
Backpacking
Being just 15 miles from the Frank Church Wilderness, backpacking opportunities abound.

Yellow Pine Music & Harmonica Festival
Starts Thursday evening before the first full weekend in August. Music, vendors, demos, harmonica lessons, and fun for the whole family.
